For the second consecutive season the Princeton women’s water polo team defeated Brown to capture the CWPA Southern Division championship. The 12th-ranked Tigers topped the Bears, 12-4, Sunday in Providence, R.I. to maintain their stance as the top team in the division.
Princeton outscored its three opponents 41-10 to win the tournament and improve to 23-5 on the year. The Tigers now head to the CWPA Eastern Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich. from Apr. 26-28.
For the third straight game, goalie Ashleigh Johnson and the defense put together a pair of shutout quarters. Following a scoreless first, the Bears notched two goals to make it a 6-2 game at halftime. Another scoreless quarter ensued and Princeton closed things out riding a 6-2 run.
Johnson finished with 15 saves and three assists.
As the defense stymied Brown’s offensive attempts, the Tigers’ drives were headlined by Katie Rigler and Saranna Soroka’s three goals apiece. Both Ashley Hatcher and Camille Hooks notched a pair, and Taylor Dunstan and Rachele Gyorffy had a goal each.
Both Hooks and Brittany Zwirner had a pair of assists, and Princeton tallied six steals in the match.
