Jonathan Carcione's point was the clincher for the Princeton men's tennis team at Cal Poly Saturday.

Extending the team's win streak to seven, the program's longest since 2005, the Princeton men's tennis team won at Cal Poly 4-3 Saturday evening in the first of three matches in California over spring break.

It was Princeton's sixth match against a fellow ITA-ranked opponent this season and third win among those matches. The Tigers lost to Cal Poly 6-1 a year ago. Princeton entered this match ranked 56th in the nation while Cal Poly was 45th.

"We're very pleased to get through today with a win against a very good Cal Poly team," Princeton head coach Billy Pate said. "It's always a bit tricky the first match outdoors, but we handled the transition well. We'll get a couple more days of practice and be ready for Pepperdine Wednesday."

The Tigers will have their hands full with their next match, coming Wednesday at 7 p.m. Eastern, as the Waves are currently ranked No. 12 in the nation. A new ITA list will come out Tuesday.

Princeton tipped the match its way when the nationally 32nd-ranked pair of Zack McCourt and Matija Pecotic won their match 9-7 at first doubles, and singles play saw five of the 10 sets go to tiebreaks. At 2-2, wins by McCourt and Jonathan Carcione provided the last two points to clinch the match.
