PRINCETON, N.J.
(2/2/13) - Freshman Molly Contini recorded her first career hat trick to lead
the Princeton women's hockey team to a 6-1 win over Brown on Saturday, Feb. 2
at Hobey Baker Rink. The Tigers have now won three straight games.
Senior Kelly Cooke
had a three-point game with one goal and two helpers. Sophomore Brianna Leahy
tallied two goals and senior Corey Stearns had two assists.
Contini got the
offense started with a goal in the first six minutes. Cooke fired on a pass
from junior Gabie Figueroa and Contini got the rebound and put it behind Aubree
Moore in goal.
Leahy earned the game
winner and gave Princeton a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period when she
got the puck from behind the net from junior Alex Kinney and buried it.
Laurie Jolin scored
Brown's only goal of the game, converting on its first power-play opportunity
of the second period with help from Jennifer Nedow and Jessica Hoyle.
Cooke answered with a
power-play goal 1:11 later when she beat Moore 1x1 on a pass from Stearns.
Contini finished off
the second period with goals at 9:43 and 12:42 as Princeton took a 5-1 lead
into the locker room.
Leahy net her second
of the game at 10:04 of the third from the left point that hit the crossbar and
dropped behind the line.
Freshman Kimberly
Newell made 24 saves as Princeton improves to 9-12-2 overall and 4-10-2 in the
ECAC to sit in eighth place in the standings.
Moore made 26 stops
for Brown, who drops to 4-16-1 and 3-13 in the league.
Princeton was 1 for 4
on the power play and 4 for 5 on the penalty, and outshot Brown 32-25.
The Tigers face
Colgate and No. 5 Cornell next weekend at home on Feb. 8 & 9.
