PRINCETON WRESTLING PROMOTIONAL VIDEO

Despite a pair of victories from its freshman class, the Princeton wrestling team fell to 0-4 on the young season with a 32-11 loss to local rival Rider Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gym.

Princeton picked up wins from freshmen Scott Gibbons (184) and Max Rogers (125), and both were especially impressive. Gibbons picked up his team-best 11th win of the season with a third-period pin of Clint Morrison; the victory breaks a 1-1 tie between the duo already this fall, and Gibbons has won each of the last two by fall.

After a scoreless first period, Gibbons scored an escape and controlled a second-period scramble to build a 3-0 lead. He continued the push into the final period and put Morrison on his back with less than a minute remaining to pick up Princeton's first team points of the match.

At that point, Princeton trailed 17-6 after five decisions went the way of the home team. Freshman Nick Maselli had one of the tougher performances, consistently pushing the action against Vinny Fava at 141. He was unable to record a takedown, and Fava scored on a pair of counters to grab a 5-3 win.

That would be the same score at 174, where junior Ryan Callahan tried a third-period comeback against James Brundage. After trailing 5-1 in the final period, Callahan scored a takedown and desperately tried to turn his Rider opponent, but time ran out on both the attempt and the match.

Rider won two straight after Gibbons' victory, though one came in the collegiate debut of freshman Cole Lampman at 285. Lampman battled Greg Velasco, even securing a takedown in the second period, but he couldn't grab a lead in an eventual 6-3 loss.

Rogers had arguably his most impressive victory of the season, scoring an 18-3 technical fall over Mike Shupin at 125. Rogers took the early offensive, though Shupin countered an early shot to grab a 2-0 edge. It would be a short-lived lead, though, as Rogers quickly escaped, took Shupin down and started counting back points. By the end of the second period, he had amassed 16 points and was well on his way to the victory.

Princeton will make its home debut Friday night at 7 against No. 25 Binghamton. Fans can receive a free gift package at the match by being among the first 100 to either retweet or share (Facebook) the promotional video linked at the top of the story.
