PRINCETON, N.J. (11/2/13) - Goals by Cameron Porter and Patrick O'Neil helped give the Princeton men's soccer team three big points in the Ivy League standings with a 2-1 win over Cornell Saturday afternoon at Roberts Stadium as the conference race enters its final two weeks.

Princeton (6-7-1, 3-1-1) entered the day three points back of Penn, two back of Harvard and even with Yale, and the Tigers will see where they stand when Ivy action is complete for the night.

Porter's goal came 16 minutes into the game when Brendan McSherry threaded a pass up the middle and Porter weaved his way through the Cornell (6-5-4, 0-4-1) defense in the box. Porter kept control of the ball even with his Big Red defenders closing in, and when Cornell keeper Zach Zagorski went down, Porter took advantage to give Princeton the 1-0 lead on his sixth goal of the season.

Just 11 minutes later, O'Neil scored his first goal of the season when he got through the Cornell defense and attacked the goal from Zagorski's right, powering it past the Cornell keeper and inside the far post. Nico Hurtado received an assist on the goal.

Princeton goalkeeper Seth MacMillan finished with four saves and took a shutout into the 87th minute until Cornell's Patrick Slogic headed in a corner kick to make it a 2-1 game. That ended a lengthy scoreless streak for Cornell which began in an overtime loss to Harvard on Oct. 12 and continued with three shutouts.

Princeton will play its final non-league game of the regular season Tuesday at Roberts Stadium against American at 7 p.m. before returning to Ivy League action next Saturday at Penn.
