HANOVER, N.H. (4/21/13) - Princeton finishes the Ivy League season with a 6-1 record after defeating Dartmouth 15-13 in women's lacrosse on Saturday, April 21.

Princeton was thisclose to taking a share of the Ivy League title as Brown nearly knocked off Penn. The Bears had the lead until the last 30 seconds when Penn scored to force overtime and went on to win 10-7.

The field is set for the 2013 Ivy League Tournament. No. 1 seed Penn will host No. 4 Cornell, while No. 2 Princeton and No. 3 Dartmouth will face off in the second semifinal at Franklin Field. Game times for these Friday, May 3 contests have yet to be determined.

Princeton jumped out to a 5-1 lead just over the midway point of the first half. Goals came from five different players, senior Charlotte Davis, sophomore Erin McMunn, junior Mary-Kate Sivilli, freshman Anya Gersoff and senior Sam Ellis. Helping the Tigers take their largest lead of the game was winning the first seven draw controls.

Dartmouth won the next five draw controls and rattled off four straight goals to tie the game at 5-5 with a little more than five minutest to play. Hana Bowers, Liz Calby and Sarah Byrne all had two goals.

Davis scored her second goal of the game, converting on a free-position attempt, at 1:49 to regain the lead for the Tigers, but Byrne knotted it once again with a tally with 20.8 seconds left.

The second half saw six lead changes and five ties. Dartmouth would only lead by one goal and took its first lead at 27:23 as Byrne scored an eight-meter goal to make it 8-7.

Sivilli, Ellis and junior Sarah Lloyd all scored in succession to swing the game back in Princeton’s favor, 10-8, at 18:46.

The Big Green went on a 5-1 run over in the next seven minutes to go ahead 12-11.

Sophomore Blake Dietrick’s first career goal at 10:26 halted a three-goal Dartmouth run and tied the game at 12-12 with 10:26 on the clock.

Allard scored Dartmouth’s final goal at 8:38 before Princeton scored three straight. Sivilli tied it at 13-13 with less than five minutes to play and Lloyd’s free-position goal at 2:25 gave the Tigers the go-ahead goal. After winning the next draw control, Princeton hung on for the last shot. That last shot would be senior Jaci Gassaway’s 98th career goal as she scored with two ticks left on the clock.

Lloyd led the Tigers offense with three goals and one assist, while Sivilli tallied a hat trick. Ellis and Slifer each had three-point games. Caroline Franke made three saves in the first 55:01 before being replaced by sophomore Annie Woehling. Woehling did not face a shot in the game’s final 4:59.

Bowers had a four-point game with three goals for the Big Green. Bryne tallied three goals and Courtney Bennett had two goals and one assist. Katie Giovanniello made six saves in goal.
