A six-run seventh inning put the Princeton baseball team in position to earn a weekend split at Stetson, but the Hatters used a ninth-inning rally to claim their third one-run win of the weekend.

Stetson third baseman Carlos Germandia singled in the winning run with one out in the ninth to complete a four-run rally for Stetson, which improved to 7-7 on the season. The hard-luck Tigers, who also saw Stetson score a run in both the ninth and 12th innings Friday in another 7-6 loss, fell to 1-7 on the season.

Through six innings, both starting pitchers dominated the game. Stetson led 2-0, though both runs off Princeton starter Mike Ford were unearned. Princeton got its offense rolling in the seventh, batting around and scoring six runs.

Shortstop Billy Arendt got the scoring started with an RBI single. After an error led to the tying run, Peter Owens earned a bases-loaded walk to give Princeton a 3-2 edge. After a sacrifice fly by Danny Hoy, rightfielder Steve Harrington drove a two-run double down the rightfield line to open a 6-2 lead.

Stetson got another unearned run in the seventh and trailed 6-3 entering the ninth. A two-run triple by Kevin Fagan got Stetson within one run, and Tanner Blackman was hit by a pitch to set up first and third with one out. Tyler Foote, Princeton's second pitcher of the inning, got a ground ball back to him and tried for the game-ending double play, but the Tigers only managed the out at second base.

Fagan scored on the play to tie the game, and Germandia finished it three batters later with a bases-loaded single to left field to win the game.

Princeton returns to action next weekend when it plays three games at Georgetown. The opening game of the series will be at 3 pm on Friday, March 15.
