PRINCETON, N.J. (1/4/13) - A hat trick by junior Andrew Calof gave the Princeton men's hockey team a 3-2 overtime win over Harvard on Friday, Jan. 4 at Hobey Baker Rink before a standing-room only crowd of 2,473.

"It was a great team effort with some incredible individual performances," head coach Bob Prier said. "Calof scoring a natural hat trick and an OT winner, along with Bonar making two timely breakaway saves in the third period was great. This win gives us tremendous motivation and confidence after being winless for the last few games. Getting points at home is crucial and we're hoping to build off of these two points."

After eight two-goal games, this marks Calof's first career hat-trick.

Calof put Princeton on the board at 12:20 with help from sophomore Tom Kroshus and freshmen Mike Ambrosia. Calof scored on the doorstep after Kroshus faked a shot inside the left circle before centering.

His second goal came midway through the second period. Junior captain Jack Berger pushed the puck up the ice and freshman Kyle Rankin grabbed the puck on the right boards and skated into the slot. Calof came running on one-timed the puck past Raphael Girard.

Marshall Everson cut Harvard's deficit back to one at 15:38 in the second with help from Colin Blackwell and Alex Fallstrom.

A power-play goal tied the game at 12:50 of the third period, when Blackwell took advantage of Princeton's second penalty of the game with Everson and Fallstrom assisting.

Just 58 seconds into the overtime, Calof scored the golden goal banking the puck off a defender. Freshman Jonathan Liau tossed the puck to Calof on the extended red with Ambrosia getting his second helper of the evening.

Junior Sean Bonar made 16 saves in his first win of the season. His biggest save, by far, was on a short-handed breakaway. Blackwell intercepted and went 1x1 with Bonar coming up with a huge pad save on Princeton's first power play of the game midway through the third.

Girard made 33 saves for Harvard, which drops to 4-6-1 overall and 3-4 in the league. Princeton outshot Harvard 36-18, with a 14-9 differential in the first and a 15-4 differential in the third.

Princeton improves to 4-7-4 overall and 3-3-3 in the ECAC which puts the Tigers tied for second in the standings. Princeton faces No. 8 Dartmouth tomorrow at 4 p.m. Dartmouth lost a 3-2 OT game at Quinnipiac this evening.
