SCHNECTADY, N.Y. (11/10/12) - The Union women's hockey team scored an extra-attacked goal in the final minute of regulation to force a 1-1 tie with Princeton on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Messa Rink.

Senior Kelly Cooke scored in the first period to give Princeton the lead it would hold throughout the game. The Tigers capitalized on their first power-play opportunity of the game when seniors Corey Stearns and Alex Kinney set up Cooke for the goal at 18:58 of the first.

Union netminder Shenae Lundberg 25 saves in goal before being removed in favor of the extra attacker with 55 seconds left on the clock. A flurry of shots ensued, with Princeton goaltender Kimberly Newell making three consecutive saves. The fourth shot by Rihanna Kurio, a rebound, would get past Newell with just 35 seconds left on the clock.

In overtime both teams held its grounds defensively. Junior Olivia Mucha rifled a shot wide and sophomore Brianna Leahy followed up with a shot that was turned away by Lundberg. A slapshot on the other end by Maddy Norton sailed wide and the teams deadlocked at 1-1.

Newell made 34 saves in goal for the Tigers, while Lundberg finished the game with 26 saves.

The Tigers were 1 for 4 on the power play and 5 for 5 on the penalty kill.

Princeton is now 3-3-2 overall and 1-3-2 in the ECAC. Union moves to 3-5-2 and 0-2-2 in league play.

Princeton begins a seven-game homestand next weekend when it hosts St. Lawrence and Clarkson on Nov. 16 & 17.
