Princeton senior Matija Pecotic won twice Saturday at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships to advance to Sunday's consolation final at the National Tennis Center in New York.
Pecotic defeated Cameron Silverman of Elon 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinal and Ryan Lipman of Vanderbilt 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 in the semis to advance to Sunday's consolation final against Peter Kobelt of Ohio State.
"Matija had a great day with two wins against strong players," Princeton head coach Billy Pate said. "He played very confidently and controlled the tempo in both matches. We'll have a tough challenge tomorrow going against possibly the biggest server in college tennis. It should be a great match."
In Florida, Zack McCourt and Dan Richardson continued play in the Lakewood Ranch clay court tournament. Richardson beat Guillermo de Vilchez of South Florida 7-5, 7-6(5) and then defeated Henrique Tsukamoto 7-6(5), 6-3 to reach the consolation final.
