Women's Track & Field Wins Four at Lions Invitational

NEW YORK (2/1/14) - Freshman Lizzie Bird, junior Emily de La Bruyere, freshman Allison Harris and sophomore Julia Ratcliffe were winners for the Princeton womens' track & field team as the Tigers competed at the Lions Invitational at The Armory on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Bird won the 1,000 at 2:52.95 nearly two seconds faster than the rest of the field. Senior Molly Higgins was just edged at the line as she placed third with a PR of 2:54.92. de La Bruyere earned the win in the 3,000 posting a time of 9:37.38, more than 10 second faster than the other 19 competitors. Also posting an impressive time was freshman Rachael Chacko at 9:55.72 for third place.

Harris claimed a victory in the pole vault clearing 3.70. She also qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles earlier in the day, finishing ninth at 9.20. Senior Samantha Anderson tied for third in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.55 while freshman Lauren Santi was fifth at 3.40.

Ratcliffe threw the weight to 18.90, the only thrower to go beyond 18 meters in a field of 21.

The Tigers continued to impress in the center of the track as freshman Alex Lanzafame was fourth in the long jump. She had the second best jump of the collegiations, reaching 5.55. In the triple jump, senior Imani Oliver was the runner up with a jump of 12.55, just getting edged by Columbia'a Nadia Eke at 12.93. Finally, in the high jump, sophomore Inka Busack was fifth launching over 1.68.

Back on the track, junior Kim Mackay was fifth in the 800. She clocked a 2:09.75 in her laps around the Armory and had the third-best collegiate time in a race of 29 runners. Classmate Emily Easton qualified for the finals in the 60 dash and sprinted to seventh place at 7.86.

In the final events of the day, the 4x400 relay was fourth at 3:52.08 and the 4x800 was third at 9:18.63.

Princeton will compete at Penn State's Sykes-Sabock Cup next Saturday, Feb. 8.
