Seniors Michael Dye and Daniel Tien will be honored Sunday afternoon when Princeton hosts Hunter College at 2 pm.

As a freshman, Dye nearly pushed Princeton volleyball to its first EIVA championship since 1998. He was named to the all-tournament team after Princeton fell in the championship match, and he was named All-East last year.

Tien is a walk-on to the team, but he has turned his unconventional serve into a legitimate weapon for a Princeton team that has already clinched a spot in the 2013 EIVA playoffs.

“To have spent the last four years growing together with Michael Dye has been a privilege,” head coach Sam Shweisky said. “Michael has matured into a terrific senior captain and leader. In the weight room, on the court, he is our emotional leader. He brings the fire when we need it and he has balanced that with great poise and maturity. Michael has been an outstanding liaison between the players and the coaching staff and is respected by everyone associated with the program. Michael has made a very special impact on the Princeton Volleyball Program and we are extremely grateful.

“Daniel Tien joined the volleyball team his sophomore year and we were very excited to have him join the team,” Shweisky added. “Dan gives his all in every practice and every drill. He works extremely hard every day to make his teammates better. Dan is a big reason why this program has been able to make the advances we have been able to make over the past few years.”

Princeton is 9-4 this season, and it has already clinched its spot in the EIVA playoffs. The Tigers will play George Mason next Saturday at 4 pm for a shot to clinch at least a third-place finish.

Hunter College, which plays in the CUNYAC Championship Tournament this weekend, currently has a 14-13 record on the season.
