PRINCETON (12/7/13) – The Princeton women’s hockey team won its second straight game Saturday, Dec. 7 at Hober Baker Rink with a 4-1 victory against Union. With the win, the Tigers sit alone in fourth place in the ECAC standings.

Just as it did the day before, Princeton took an early 1-0 lead courtesy of a short-handed goal. On Friday against Rensselaer it was senior Olivia Mucha who assisted fellow senior Denna Laing on the first line. Saturday, it was Laing who fed Mucha to put the Tigers up 1-0 just 4:01 into the first period. It was the Tigers' ECAC-leading fifth short-handed tally of the season.

Princeton extended its lead to 3-0 in the second session. Junior defender Ali Pankwoski, who on Friday picked up a helper on a blast from the blue line, found the back of the net herself at the 14:28 mark of the middle period. Only 3:30 later, sophomore Cristin Shanahan registered a goal from the left slot on the rush.

Union's Alex Tancrell-Fontaine provided a response for the Engineers with a goal that cut Princeton's lead to 3-1. But Tigers freshman Fiona McKenna came through in the final two minutes of the third period to expand Princeton's advantage to 4-1 with her first career goal.

Sophomore Kimberly Newell stopped 10 Union shots, while Shenae Lundberg made 29 saves in goal for the Engineers. The Tigers controlled the puck throughout the game thanks in part to winning 35 of the game's 54 faceoffs.

Princeton doesn't take the ice for game action again until Jan. 2, when the Tigers host Connecticut at 7 p.m. at Hobey Baker Rink.
