PRINCETON (10/12/13) – Freshman Jovan Jeremic had the best game of his young career, scoring eight times, as the 12th-ranked Princeton men’s water polo team improved to a perfect 6-0 in the CWPA Southern Division standings with a 16-11 win over Navy on Saturday night at DeNunzio Pool. Jeremic scored two of his eight goals during a three-goal spurt late in the third quarter that turned a one-goal Tiger lead into a four-goal edge and gave Princeton some breathing room entering the final frame.

Princeton never trailed in the game but couldn’t shake Navy until that outburst in the third quarter. The Tigers opened up two-goal leads of 4-2 and 6-4 in the first half but Navy drew even at 6-6 in the second quarter before goals from Kayj Shannon and Drew Hoffenberg in the final minute gave Princeton an 8-6 halftime lead.

Jeremic scored early in the third to stretch Princeton’s lead to 9-6, but two quick Navy goals brought the Midshipmen within one before goals from Jeremic, Shannon and Jeremic again gave Princeton a 12-8 lead after three.

Jeremic’s previous game high has been three goals in a game, which he has accomplished six times this season. His seven goals ties him with Chris Gratian for second on the list of most goals in a game. The Princeton record for goals in a game belongs to Robert Urquhart, who scored 10 in a win over George Washington.

Hoffenberg scored four times and Shannon added two markers. Shannon, Jamie Kuprenas and Thomas Nelson each added a single goal. Ben Dearborn started the game and played a quarter before Alex Gow came on for the final three and earned the win.

Princeton is now 6-0 in Southern Division play with two league games left on the schedule. The first comes tomorrow afternoon at Bucknell and the second on Oct. 25 against George Washington. A win in either of those games will lock up the division's regular season title. Princeton is now 13-3 overall and has swept its regular season series with Navy for the second time in three seasons.
