Three Finals Appearances Cap Final Day at Princeton/Farnsworth Invite
Three main-draw flight finals appearances highlighted the final day at the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational for the Tiger men's tennis team.
The Dan Davies and Zack McCourt took Columbia's Miguel Alda and Winston Lin of Columbia to a tiebreak in the top doubles draw final but came up short, 8-7(4). Rookies Josh Yablon and Tom Colautti fell in their finals, Yablon retiring in the first set due to injury and Colautti losing in straight sets.
"In general, we were pleased with the overall performance of our team," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "The younger players gained some much-needed collegiate match experience. It’s not always easy making the transition from junior tennis to collegiate tennis, so it was a successful event for the freshmen. Colautti did a good job of making his way to the singles final in the top flight but he didn’t play his best today and was matched against a very experienced guy (Columbia's Dragos Ignat) who played well. Though Yablon had to default in the first set it was great to see him compete in a tournament for the first time in eight months after having surgery. He’s just a bit rusty and clearly the volume of play got to him in the end. Day finished up with three quality wins and was playing better each match. We’re anxious to get back to work in the next 10 days before we take the court again at Navy.”
The Tigers will play again on Sept. 27 in the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md. Princeton's final-day results from the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational are below.
