PRINCETON, N.J. (2/23/12) - The Princeton women's hockey season was cut short this year as the Tigers lost 4-2 at Yale on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Ingalls Rink.

The loss coupled with a Colgate win left Princeton one point out of qualifying for the ECAC Tournament, ending an 11-year streak of  playoff appearances.

Princeton had a 2-0 lead and led 2-1 after the second period but Yale came alive in the third, scoring three straight goals.

Junior Rose Alleva found Olivia Mucha to score the only goal of the first period at 15:17. After Mucha was called for tripping early in the second period, the Tigers squashed Yale's efforts as sophomore Brianna Leahy scored a short-handed goal with help from junior Denna Laing.

The Bulldogs capitalized on their next power-play opportunity, at 11:40, as Alyssa Zupon scored on a pass from Aurora Kennedy.

Natalie Wedell tied the game with her first goal of the season at 6:48 before Lynn Kennedy scored the go-ahead goal at 11:05.

Princeton pulled goalie Kimberly Newell for the extra attacker with 2:32 to play and the Tigers started firing on Yale netminder Erin Callahan. Princeton had two shots blocked and three on frame before Lynn Kennedy tried to clear the puck into the empty net. Freshman Ali Pankowski blocked the shots by Tara Tomimoto was able to succeed on the second chance at the open net scoring with 35 seconds left to play.

Newell made 21 saves as Princeton outshot Yale 36-25. Callahan picked up her first win of her career with 34 saves.

Incidentally, Yale ends its season today as well at 5-20-3 overall and 4-14-3 in the ECAC.

Princeton concludes the 2012-13 season with an 11-16-2 record and a record of 6-14-2 in the ECAC.
