PRINCETON, N.J. (2/23/13) - The Class of 2016 combined for six goals as the Princeton women's lacrosse team earned a 10-5 win over Villanova in the season opener on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.

Alexandra Bruno, Anya Gersoff and Stephanie Paloscio had two goals apiece and senior Charlotte Davis had two points with a goal and an assist.

"We had some first game jitters, that hopefully we worked out and we'll come out a little stronger next time," head coach Chris Sailer said after the game. "It was a good sign from the freshmen who did a great job finishing, but others players did a lot between the lines. Sarah Lloyd did a great job on the draws, Caroline Rehfuss caused four caused turnovers."

The Tigers held a 3-0 lead at halftime, with Davis getting things started offensively. Senior Charlotte Rehfuss outletted a pass that led to Bruno's first career goal, and Paloscio added her first with less than four minuts to play in the first half. Princeton did a great job defesively, not allowing the Wildcats into their attacking third until well over 10 minutes had gone off the clock.

Villanova cut its deficit to one, scoring two goals to open the second half, scoring a man-up goal and a free-position goal.

Princeton turned on the heat as it rattled off four straight goals in a span of 2:39. Bruno found junior Mary-Kate Sivilli for a goal at 25:09 and senior Jenna Davis fed sophomore Erin McMunn at 23:18. Just 12 seconds later Bruno made it a 7-2 game with help from Charlotte Davis. An unassisted goal by senior Sam Ellis came less than a minute later.

Ali Judge ending the Tigers' run temporarily with a goal from Jessica Mucci at 19:29 to make it an 8-3 game.

Gersoff scored two straight unassisted goals, the second came after she caused a Villanova turnover in front of the Princeton bench and ran to goal and fired.

Mucci and Jackie Froccaro put up goals for the Wildcats as they crept within four with less than eight minutes to play. Villanova' leading scorer Froccaro was held without a goal by defender Rehfuss, and broke through only on an free-position shot.

Paloscio capped the win with a goal with 11.5 seconds left.

Sophomore Annie Woehling made seven saves in the win as Princeton outshot Villanova 28-21.

Princeton held a 9-8 edge in draw controls, and a 17-12 advantage in ground balls.

Princeton (1-0) will face its first ranked opponent on next Saturday in No. 15 Georgetown. Game time is 4 p.m., in Georgetown.
