Women's Basketball Scores Program-High 99 Points, Explodes Past Yale 99-53

The Princeton women's basketball team scored a program-high 99 points, eclipsing a 26-year record, as the squad trounced Yale 99-53 Sunday evening in New Haven, Conn.

The Tigers commanded all facets of the game from tipoff, opening with a 20-0 uncontested run over the first six minutes of play, and carried that momentum to the final buzzer.

Princeton shot 58.6 percent (41-for-70) from the field, holding differentials in rebounding (52-31), assists (19-4) and forcing 16 turnovers.

Niveen Rasheed and Kristen Helmstetter established an early pace, combining for 27 first half points as both veterans finished with double-doubles.

Senior Rasheed notched her seventh double-double of the year, scoring a career-high 29 points and grabbing 12 boards.

Helmstetter scored 12 of her 18 points in the first half and grabbed 10 defensive boards en route to the junior's first double-double of the year.

By halftime the Tigers held a 56-26 lead, nearly besting a 20-season record when they scored 59 in a half versus Niagra on Dec. 4, 1992. They still managed to establish a new single-game points record, surpassing their 97 points versus Long Island on Jan. 14, 1986.

Off the bench sophomores Blake Dietrick and Mariah Smith each went 5-for-6 from the field, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively to round out the Tigers' top scorers.

Princeton extends it Ivy winning streak to 29 with the victory, improving to 14-5, 5-0 Ivy on the year. Riding a seven-game winning streak, the Tigers return home for to host Dartmouth on Friday, Feb. 15 and Harvard the following day.
