Men's Cross Country Takes 3rd; Four Named All-Region

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (11/9/12) - The NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional was a race to the finish with the top three men's teams being separated by just five points. Princeton would miss getting the automatic bid by just four points, as it placed third with 61 points. Villanova was second with 57, while Georgetown claimed the win with 56 points.

The next 22 teams were far back, with the fourth-place team earning 145 points.

The Heps champion, junior Chris Bendtsen, finished third as the first Tiger across the line. He covered the 10k course in 30:35. Like a repeat of Heps, junior Alejandro Arroyo Yamin was one second back to take fifth. Fellow junior Tyler Udland claimed sixth with a time of 30:39. Senior Michael Franklin and junior Jonathan Vitez ran 30:58 and 31:08 as the final two scorers. Sophomores Matt McDonald and Sam Pons ran 31:10 and 31:12, to finish in the top 35.

Bendtsen, Arroyo Yamin, Udland and Franklin all earned All-Region honors for placing in the top 25.

Princeton will await the NCAA committee's at-large selections for the NCAA Championships, that will include 13 at-large teams and the top four at each Regional not on an advancing team.
