Princeton University’s athletics program is renowned as one of the most historically significant in America.  Reflecting a student body in which close to half of all undergraduates compete in intercollegiate or club sports, Tiger athletics is extraordinarily well-integrated into the academic and social fabric of the University community, and plays a uniquely intrinsic role in the life and spirit of Princeton.  Drawing upon traditional Princeton iconography, a newly revised graphic identity system has been created to celebrate the storied past and vibrant present of Princeton University Athletics.

In order to create a system which was both flexible yet cohesive, the new Princeton University Athletic identity is structured as a “kit of parts” of discrete graphic elements, from which various expressions of the same identity may be constructed.  The principles underlying the “kit of parts” are defined within the Princeton Athletics/Spirit Identity Guide (see below).  The pages in the Identity Guide present these elements and the guidelines that support them, for their combined, consistent usage across all applications.

The three primary elements of the system include a bold new "P", the form of which was inspired by the letter sweater of hockey immortal Hobey Baker '14; innovative presentations of the Princeton University shield and the chevron; and a silhouette tiger with accompanying tiger head and profile. A preferred typeface, FF DIN, which is sleekly contemporary yet recalls the lettering on some classic 19th Princeton team uniforms, is also included.
