Swim Lesson Program

Summer 2014 Lesson Schedule will be available Thursday, May 29th

Registration for all Summer 2014 Lessons  must be done with a PDF registration form. Payment must be recevied in the form of check or cash in order to reserve a spot in a class.

Description of Levels

Preschool: This is an introductory level and is designed to making swimmers comfortable in the water without a parent. It focuses on teaching them how to have fun and stay safe.

orientation to the aquatic environment without parent
entering & exiting the water
blowing bubbles through mouth & nose
putting face in the water
introduction to bobbing
front & back glides
introduction to arm and leg movement
exploring floating on front and back
introduction to water safety

Level 1: This level focuses on the most basic skills of learning how to swim and feeling comfortable in the water.

submerge whole head
open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
combined arm and leg actions on front and back
tread water using arm and hand actions
recover to vertical position

Level 2: This level enables children to gain greater independence in the water by achieving success with fundamental skills.

back crawl
turning over from front to back and back to front
jumping into water without being caught
floating on front and back on own
submerge entire head for 3 seconds
blow bubbles submerging head in a rhythmic pattern

Level 3: This level is a continuation of building on skills learned in level 2 and gaining comfort in greater water depths

perform rotary breathing with the body in a horizontal position

retrieving objects from underwater

kneeling dive
butterfly – kick and body motion 

Level 4: In this level swimmers develop more variety of strokes and improve on those learned previously.

Level 5: This level furthers swimmers' stroke refinement and works towards gaining confidence in each individual stroke.

Level 6: This is the most advanced level offered. The class is focused on improving techniques of all strokes as well as building endurance.

Group Lessons for Adults

Adult Beginner: This is an introductory level for adults. It will help establish a comfort level in the water as well as the basics of freestyle and backstroke.

Adult Beginner Intermediate: This level is for those between the beginner swimmer level and a lap swimmer. It is will help in becoming a more proficent swimmer.

Adult Intermediate:  The intermediate class is designed for those who are comfortable swimming laps. It focuses on reviewing and improving technique in freestyle and backstroke as well as introducing elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

Thursdays- Adult Beginner Intermediate Lesson

Cost: 4 lessons + 1 makeup lesson: $90


Private Lessons (for all ages)- Please fill out a registration form at the top of the page

Length of class: 30 minutes 

Ratio: 1 on 1 student to instructor  

Cost: 1 lesson= $40,  5 lessons= $175,  10 lessons= $325

Times and dates of lessons are determined based on individual participant as well as instructor and pool availability. Lessons are subject to change, based on Dillon Pool availability. Please check the detailed pool schedule at the top of the page. 

Changes to regularly scheduled lessons need to be done 24 hours in advance. Any changes after that point will be charged as a lesson. All no-shows will be charged.

Lesson schedules generally coincide with the Princeton University Academic Calender.

FALL SEMESTER:  Mid-September-Beginning of December

SPRING SEMESTER: Mid-February- Beginning of May

SUMMER: Mid-June-Beginning of August

Lifeguard Training Course

New Blended Learning Program- Online assignments to be completed prior to in-class skill sessions. Instructions to access the online assignments will be emailed out, about 1 week prior to the first day of class.

Registration for any Lifeguard Training Course can be done by filling out the PDF form, at the top of the page

7/19 & 7/20: 12pm-6pm

Course Cost: $300


When: Monday, July 28th, Tuesday, July 29th, Wednesday, July 30th, & Thursday, July 31st  (Registration Closes Tuesday, July 22nd) 

Times: 7/28: 3pm-7pm

7/29 & 7/30: 3pm-8pm

7/31: 3pm-7pm

Course Cost: $300

***All participants are required to pass a pre-test. Those who do not pass will be be charged a $150 processing fee and receive a refund for the remaining balance. If at the conclusion of the course, the participant fails any of the final tests (written or physical) no refund will be given.***

Lifeguard Re-Certification Course


When: Saturday, June 14th (Registration closes Monday, June 9th) 

Time: 10am-5pm

Where: DeNunzio Pool

Course Cost: $145

Safety Training for Swim Coaches

Currently Lifeguard Certified: Must complete online assignments only

Currently Safety Training Certified or New: Must complete online assignments and brief in-water skill session. *In-water skill session may be set up after registering and completing online assingments 

Course Cost: $60
