Description of Levels


Preschool: This is an introductory level and is designed to making swimmers comfortable in the water without a parent. It focuses on teaching them how to have fun and stay safe.

blowing bubbles through mouth & nose
putting face in the water
introduction to bobbing
front & back glides
introduction to arm and leg movement
exploring floating on front and back
introduction to water safety

Level 1: This level focuses on the most basic skills of learning how to swim and feeling comfortable in the water.

open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
combined arm and leg actions on front and back
tread water using arm and hand actions
recover to vertical position


Level 2: This level enables children to gain greater independence in the water by achieving success with fundamental skills.

Level 4: In this level swimmers develop more variety of strokes and improve on those learned previously.

Adult Beginner: This is an introductory level for adults. It will help establish a comfort level in the water as well as the basics of freestyle and backstroke.

Adult Beginner Intermediate: This level is for those between the beginner swimmer level and a lap swimmer. It is will help in becoming a more proficent swimmer.

Adult Intermediate:  The intermediate class is designed for those who are comfortable swimming laps. It focuses on reviewing and improving technique in freestyle and backstroke as well as introducing elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

Private Lessons (for all ages)

Length of class: 30 minutes 

Ratio: 1 on 1 student to instructor  

Cost: 1 lesson = $40,  5 lessons = $175,  10 lessons = $325 

*Discounted rates only apply when signing up for the specified number of lessons associated with that price.

Times and dates of lessons are determined based on individual participant as well as instructor and pool availability. Lessons are subject to change, based on Dillon Pool availability. Please check the detailed pool schedule at the top of the page

Changes to regularly scheduled lessons need to be done 24 hours in advance. Any changes after that point will be charged as a lesson. All no-shows will be charged.

Lesson schedules generally coincide with the Princeton University Academic Calender.

FALL SEMESTER:  Mid-September-Beginning of December

SPRING SEMESTER: Mid-February- Beginning of May

SUMMER: Mid-June-Beginning of August

Lifeguard Training Course

New Blended Learning Program - Online assignments to be completed prior to in-class skill sessions. Instructions to access the online assignments will be emailed out, about one week prior to the first day of class.

Summer Certification Course Schedule
