Men's Lightweights Split H-Y-P Showdown, Will Prepare For Eastern Sprints
The Princeton men's lightweight crew split its third straight weekend, defeating Yale and falling to Harvard in the Goldthwait Cup showdown on Lake Carnegie. Princeton's first varsity time of 5:55.0 was less than four seconds off of the Crimson's winning pace, and both teams will see each other again on May 13 at Eastern Sprints.
Princeton will enter the Eastern Sprints with a 6-3 record, but it also knows that the gap between all of the top teams in the league is very slim. Harvard will be one contender, coming off its Goldthwait Cup-winning time of 5:51.8. Yale placed third in a time of 6:02.8, but the Bulldogs did claim wins in all four other races on the day, including both novice ones. The Princeton third varsity nearly pulled out a win, but its time of 6:09.4 was less than a second behind Yale, and the first novice time of 6:02.2 was five seconds behind Yale.
The Princeton second varsity placed second in a time of 6:04.3.
