Release: 03/24/2007

The 2006 national champion Princeton open crew said goodbye to several prominent members of its historic boat last year, and it is still working in younger rowers into its top boat. Head coach Lori Dauphiny felt there could be some challenges in that process, and the Tigers found their first one in the season opener. Against Top 10 rivals in Brown and Ohio State, Princeton fell Saturday morning on Lake Carnegie.

Dauphiny, whose preseason plans have been limited to mostly indoor training due to the winter, watched Princeton fall in four of five races against the talented duo. The Tigers did claim a win in the Varsity 4 with a winning time of 8:05.8, topping second-place Brown by 10 full seconds and Ohio State by nearly 14 seconds.

Unfortunately, the varsity eight competition would not go as well. Brown, which placed second in the NCAA team competition last year, won the varsity eight in 6:52.8, while Ohio State placed second in 6:57.4. Princeton placed third in 6:59.9.

Princeton also placed third in the second varsity eight (7:20.2), while its first novice four split; with a time of 7:56.6, the Tigers defeated Ohio State but lost to Brown. The third varsity "B" four finished in 8:10.9 to finish behind Brown.

The Tigers will stay in the state next weekend, as they travel to New Brunswick to compete against both Rutgers and Columbia.
