Miller Named Preseason Defensive Player of the Year
PRINCETON, N.J. (8/14/14) - Fred Welser's College Sports Madness announced its Ivy League Preseason All-Conference selections on Thursday, August 14.
Junior Josh Miller was named the league's Defensie Player of the Year and is one of five that was named to the first and second teams.
Joining Miller on the first team are scoring tandem Thomas Sanner and Cameron Porter, as well as Myles McGinley. Brian Costa made the second team.
The 2014 team captain, Miller earned first-team All-Ivy League honors last year as a sophomore defender. He earned a starting role at center back with 17 starting nods and helped to hold teams to just 9.9 shots per game and 4.1 shots on goal per game.
Porter and Sanner are also coming off of first-team All-Ivy League seasons. Porter led the Ivy League in scoring overall with 21 points on a league-best nine goals and three assists. He also led the league in scoring in conference games with 13 points on six goals and one assist. Not far behind Porter in scoring production was Sanner. The 2012 Ivy League Rookie of the Year was fourth in the league in points wtih 15 on seven goals and one assist.
McGinley was also a first-team All-Ivy pick in 2013. Last season he appeared in 14 games and made 13 starts with one assist. Costa was an honorable mention selection, one of just five rookies in the league to be honored. He played in all 17 games and made 15 starts with one assist.
Princeton opens the 2014 season on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Fairleigh Dickinson. Two scrimmages will be held in Princeton prior to the regular season getting underway. Canadian team Winstars visit on Thursday, Aug. 28 for a 4 p.m., scrimmage and Columbia makes the trip on Saturday, Aug. 30 for a 6 p.m., tilt.
