BRITISH GAS GREAT BRITAIN WATER POLO TEAM

PRINCETON, N.J. – Pippa Temple of the Princeton University women's water polo program has been named to the British Gas Great Britain National Team for the upcoming LEN European Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

A British national born in Reading, England and living as a permanent resident in the United States, Temple is a rising junior for the Tigers. Growing up in Atherton, Calif., she was a four-year letterwinner and starter at Sacred Heart Prep, helping the Gators to four-consecutive CCS and three WCAL championships.

Also playing for the Stanford Water Polo Club, Temple has participated in the US Youth National Team Selection Camp and US Youth National Training Team and was a Junior Olympic All-America honoree in 2010.

“I previously trained with the US Youth National Team at various selection camps, but ultimately my goal was to make a senior squad,” said Temple. “I contacted Team GB at the end of last year and went to Manchester in January. After a two-week trial I was invited to join the squad and I’m excited to give it my all for the opportunity to represent my country.”

As a freshman at Princeton, Temple saw action in 34 games, tallying 36 goals with 11 assists and six steals. Last season, she started 26 of her 30 appearances, finishing with 33 goals, 21 assists and nine steals.

With the tournament slated to begin on July 16, Temple and the British national team will travel to Madrid on July 9 to take part in a training camp with the Spanish national team.

Despite seeing it’s funding eliminated earlier this year, the British national team will compete in its second-straight European Championships after placing seventh in Eindhoven, Netherlands two years ago.

Great Britain will open tournament play on Wednesday, July 16 against Greece before squaring off against the Netherlands (7/18) and host Hungary (7/20).
