Though the Cleveland Cavaliers' hiring of David Blatt '81 on June 20, making him the first Princeton alum to serve as a head coach in the NBA since 1977, was a highlight of the summer for the Tiger basketball family, it's far from the only news this offseason.

One week later on June 27, Judson Wallace '05 helped his Italian league team, EA7 Emporio Armani Milano, win the Serie A title in the seventh game of a best-of-seven series against Montepaschi Siena. Milano got out to a 2-0 lead in the series, saw Siena win the next three and responded by winning Games 6 and 7 to take the title. Wallace played in the last three games of the series and four of the last five as Milano broke through for its first Italian league title since 1996.

While Wallace came west across the Atlantic following his title-winning season in Italy, rising junior Hans Brase headed the other direction to train with the German second national team from July 5-12 outside Berlin. Brase, who played with the U-20 German team in the European championships last summer, will be with the team when it heads to Sibiu, Romania for two games against the Romanian national team on July 10 and 11.

Back on campus, the men's basketball program announced on June 26 that the team will play in the Wooden Classic in Southern California around the Thanksgiving holiday, marking the program's first visit to the Los Angeles area since the Tigers took on John Wooden's UCLA team in 1969. The bracket for that eight-team event will be announced in late July or early August.
