SACRAMENTO, Calif. (6/29/14) - Ashley Higginson's second-place finish in the steeplechase highlighted the Princeton women's track & field presence at the USA Track & Field Championships this weekend.

Higginson was second in the women’s steeplechase at 9:27.59. She was in the top four the entire race and after five laps took second place, behind Emma Coburn, and remained there through the finish. Higginson was second to Coburn earlier in the semifinal with a 9:40.26. She took the lead and held it through the first four laps before trading spots with Emma Coburn. She crept back ahead on lap 6, but fell back into second for the next 800 meters. Higginson ran the fastest lap 1 (39.52), lap 2 (1:15.64), lap 3 (1:16.60).

Higginson was a member of the 2013 World Championship team after finishing second at this meet a year ago. In 2012 she missed making the Olympic team by 2.4 seconds, taking fourth as an alternate. (note: Worlds are held every two years, Olympics every four, therefore there is no meet this year).

Cecilia Barowski ’16 ran 2:02.14 in the women’s preliminary 800, taking third in heat 1 and finishing seventh out of the 31 that competed. In the semifinal she clocked 2:07.78 and placed third in her heat and 14th overall. It marked a season best for Barowski who qualified for nationals with a 2:03.87.

Steepler Carrie Dimoff ’05 ran in the women’s 10k and finished 13th in the final at 33:34.01. She ran much of the race in the 13/14 position, holding 13th for the final 4400 meters.
