EUGENE, Ore. (6/12/14) - Junior Eddie Owens had his season come to an end in the semifinals of the steeplechase this afternoon at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Historic Hayward Field.

Owens finished 11th with a time of 9:05.28. Owens ran back-to-back PRs prior to today's meet with a 8:52.78 at Heps and an 8:46.41 at the NCAA East Regional.

"My head wasn't quite right," Owens said after the meet. "I wasn't feeling the same kind of feel that I normal feel on the starting line. I should have taken the days more relaxed. I usually do my best when I'm more mellow, but that wasn't today. I was late to the check-in, nothing really went right."

When asked about his successful season leading up to the meet, Owens said: "In a few hours I'll look back on....it was a good one. I PR'ed in every single distance I ran this year. I am going to feel like I didn't quite finish it up the way I wanted to. At the start of the season I didn't neccesarily expect to be at this meet, it was a pleasant surprise. But once you get a taste of it you set higher goals - I wanted to be in the final here, I wanted to go to USAs, I wanted to go to the NACAC meet and now I have to shut it down."

Peter Callahan ’13 will run for a national title in the men’s 1500. He qualified with a fourth-place finish in Heat 2 today with a 3:41.52. Callahan sat back comfortable and slowly moved up along the outside. At the bell he turned on the guns and safely made it in the top 5 to qualify for the Saturday’s final. That race will be at 2:18 PT.

Callahan, who won an NCAA title for Princeton as the anchor of the 2013 distance medley relay, is finishing his eligibility at New Mexico.
