Reinprechts, Sharkey Represent U.S. At Champions Challenge In Scotland
Princeton alums Kathleen Sharkey and Katie Reinprecht and soon-to-be alum Julia Reinprecht are members of the United States national field hockey team team that is currently competing in the Champions Challenge in Scotland.
The U.S. finished pool play with a 2-1 record Wednesday with a 3-0 win over Ireland in a game in which Sharkey scored one of the goals. The U.S. team won its opener against Spain, fell to South Africa and then had the win over Ireand. Next up will be India in the quarterfinals Thursday.
With a win, the U.S. could get another shot at Spain, as the winner of the U.S.-India game will play the winner of Spain-Belgium in the semifinals Saturday. The championship game and consolation games will be played Sunday.
The U.S., ranked 10th in the world, has been the runner-up at the last two Champions Challenges.
The coming FIH Hockey World League will take over as the qualifiers for the World Cup and Olympics, making this the final Champions Challenge.
