Johnson Named Defensive Player of the Week for Fourth Time in 2014
Five weeks into the 2014 season and Princeton women’s water polo goalie Ashleigh Johnson has collected her fourth CWPA Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week honor and the eighth of her career, it was announced Wednesday. The sophomore has now earned 10 divisional weekly awards over her Tiger tenure.
Johnson helped Princeton cruise to a weekend sweep at the Harvard Invitational last weekend and improve to 14-0 on the year behind her 42-save effort.
She opened the tournament with a 14-save outing in an 8-7 win over then-No. 19 Hartwick, followed by a 19-save performance versus Iona to earn a 9-7 victory. The 19 saves are her second highest single-game total.
Johnson and the Tigers improved to 4-0 versus ranked opponents, earning a 14-11 win over then-No. 18 Santa Clara after she made nine saves.
The goaltender boasts a .695 saves percentage, made 169 saves and has only conceded 74 goals against spanning just under 419 minutes between the pipes.
Johnson and the No. 8 Tigers will now head to Southern California for an eight-game slate, beginning at this weekend’s San Diego State-hosted Aztec Invitational.
