Eliza Stone '13 won her first saber World Cup medal Sunday in Senegal, 7,400 miles from where many of her former Princeton teammates were winning the program's fifth straight Ivy League title.

Stone finished third in a field of 101 competitors from 24 nations in the Americas, Asia, Europe and Africa. The Tiger alumna, who won the NCAA saber title last year while helping Princeton to an NCAA team championship, was the highest-finishing of 12 Americans that included 2012 Olympian Dagmara Wozniak and three-time Olympian and two-time Olympic gold medalist Mariel Zagunis.

In the direct-elimination portion of the competition, Stone opened with a 15-6 win over Italy's Irene Di Transo in the Round of 64, followed by a 15-14 win over Sabina Mikina over Azerbaijan. In the Round of 16, Stone, the No. 12 seed entering the draw, beat sixth-seeded Rajin Lee of South Korea 15-13 to advance to the final eight. There, she defeated Italy's Irene Vecchi 15-9 before being defeated by France's Charlotte Lembach 15-13. Top-seeded Olga Kharlan of Ukraine defeated Lembach 15-13 in the final.

While at Princeton, Stone helped Princeton win four Ivy League titles, was a four-time All-America, a four-time All-Ivy Leaguer and three-time first-teamer, and a three-time top-three individual finisher at the NCAAs including the 2013 saber gold.
