Chris and Nick Bates will be headed to Ghana Friday with Ann's Love Builds, the foundation in memory of Ann Bates.
Anne’s love continues to build. Now it will be stretching to the other side of the world.

More than two years after the death of Dr. Ann Bates, “Ann’s Love Builds,” the foundation that bears her name, continues to keep its namesake’s spirit and devotion to service alive.

Ann Bates, the late wife of Princeton men’s lacrosse head coach Chris Bates, passed away in November 2011 at the age of 43 after three courageous battles against cancer. “Ann’s Love Builds” has brought together members of her medical community, her church and the lacrosse world for projects in North Philadelphia, Camden and Trenton that included rebuilding houses and churches and constructing playgrounds and gardens.

Now the trip will be a much longer one. Chris Bates, his 12-year-old son Nick and other members of the organization will be making the 11-hour flight to Ghana Friday for a 10-day stay in the country. This will not be a sightseeing excursion by any means.

The “ALB” group will be helping put the finishing touches on the brand-new Ann Bates Memorial Hospital, a building that will be about three hours from the capital city of Accra, in the town of Berekum. The hospital has been converted from an outpatient clinic to a modern, two-story, in-patient hospital.

There will also be medical personnel on the trip who will be doing basic screenings and providing immunizations.

"I am sure that it will be an eye opening experience for Nicholas and me," Chris Bates says. "It really is amazing to think of Ann's legacy reaching Africa in a such a powerful way. We are excited to continue support in any way the good work happening both locally and now in Ghana."
