PRINCETON, N.J. (11/6/13) - The Princeton men's hockey team hosts defending national champion Yale and Brown this weekend in team's home opener. The Tigers take on Yale on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m., and Brown on Nov. 9 at 4 p.m.

EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton home opener this weekend kicks off a six-game homestand for the Tigers. Princeton is 1-4 on the season after losing both games on the road last weekend at Cornell and Colgate. The Tigers opened the season at the Liberty Hockey Invitational, defeating Dartmouth 3-2 in overtime before falling 3-2 to Yale in the second game.

Senior Andrew Calof leads the team in scoring with three points on three assists. Juniors Tucker Brockett and Tyler Maugeri have two goals apiece. Seniors Andrew Ammon and Jack Berger along with freshman Ben Foster and junior Aaron Ave each have two points. Senior Sean Bonar played the first three games of the season and has a .904 save percentage and a 3.04 goals against average. Freshman Colton Phinney earned his first career start at Colgate and made 32 saves and allowed three goals in the loss.

THE PRINCETON/YALE SERIES
Yale owns a 133-103-10 record in the all-time series since the rivalry began in 1901. The Bulldogs have won the last four meetings in the series including a season sweep last year with 3-2 and 4-2 wins. Andrew Calof has 14 points against Yale in 11 meetings. Senior Jack Berger has five points, while senior Alec Rush and junior Tyler Maugeri have four points apiece. Senior Sean Bonar is 1-3-1 in games versus Yale and has a 3.58 GAA and an .897 save percentage with 157 saves on 175 shots.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
After dropping its season opener to Brown, 4-1, No. 9 Yale has been unbeaten in its next three games. Following a win over Princeton, Yale tied St. Lawrence 3-3 and defeated Clarkson 6-3 at home last weekend. Yale’s power play is 4 for 21 (19%), while the penalty kill is 10 of 15 (66.7%), 11th in the league.

Junior Anthony Day has a team-high four points on three goals and one assist. Senior Jesse Root, junior Tommy Fallen, sophomores Rob O’Gara and Carson Cooper and freshman Frankie DiChiara have three points apiece. O’Gara net the game-tying goal versus St. Lawrence last weekend, while Root had the game winner against Clarkson. Freshmen Alex Lyon and Patrick Spano have split playing time. Lyon is 0-1-1 with a 2.91 GAA and a .903 save percentage. Spano is 2-0 with a 2.50 GAA and a .904 save percentage. Spano was in goal for the first meeting this season, making 22 saves on 25 shots.

THE PRINCETON/BROWN SERIES
Brown holds an 84-65-8 edge in the all-time series that began in 1900. The Bears are undefeated in the last four meetings including a 5-1 win at home and a 4-1 win on the road last season. Senior Andrew Calof leads all Tigers against the Bears with 11 points in nine games. Senior Andrew Ammon is next with three points. Senior Sean Bonar is 0-1-1 in goal against Brown with a .926 save percentage and a 3.26 GAA, making 63 saves on 68 shots.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
After winning the inaugural Liberty Hockey Invitational to start the season, the Bears went 0-1-1 at home versus Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Brown lost a 4-3 game against Clarkson and tied St. Lawrence the next day, 3-3. The Bears’ penalty kill ranks last in the league at 65% (13/20) and the power play ranks 10th at 17.6% (3/17).

Sophomore Mark Naclerio sits atop the scoring column with nine points on three goals and six assists. Sophomore Nick Lappin and junior Matt Lorito add six points apiece. Senior Garnet Hathaway and defender Brandon Pfeil and Dennis Robertson contribute three each. Senior Marco DeFilippo and freshman Tyler Steel have split time in net. DeFilippo has a .925 save percentage and a 2.53 GAA while Steel has a .902 save percentage and a 2.88 GAA.
