Coming off its winningest season since 2006, the Princeton softball team will have two dates of fall games over the next two weekends.
The Tigers will make the short trip to the Armstrong Memorial Park in Ewing, N.J., for a pair of games Saturday, Sept. 28 as part of the Rocci Pignoli/Nick Cinquanto Memorial Tournament. Princeton will face Saint Joseph's at 10 a.m. and Iona at 2 p.m.
Princeton will head to Delaware for a doubleheader Sunday, Oct. 6 against the Blue Hens beginning at noon.
Under first-year head coach Lisa Sweeney, the Tigers were 27-19 last spring, a year after finishing 14-32. As they prepare for the spring 2014 season, the Tigers will welcome five freshmen who will get a look over the two fall weekends as Princeton seeks to replace the contributions of five seniors from the 2013 team, including its top two pitchers in Liza Kuhn '13 and Alex Peyton '13. Peyton also led the team in home runs, with 11.
Among the returners, sophomore Shanna Christian tied with Kuhn for the second-most innings with 79 1/3 in her rookie season and will return along with junior Meredith Brown. At the plate, the Tigers return nearly 60 percent of their hits from last season, led by juniors Alyssa Schmidt (46-131, .351) and Rachel Rendina (50-143, .350).
