Tyler Lussi couldn't have done much more in her first weekend playing for the Princeton women's soccer team, and the Ivy League has recognized her fast start.
Lussi, who scored three goals over the team's first two games during the weekend, won the Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Week honors.
Current junior Lauren Lazo was the last Tiger to win the Ivy League Player of the Week award, taking the final honor last season on Nov. 5, 2012. Current sophomore Jessica Lee, on Sept. 10, 2012, was the last Tiger to win the Rookie of the Week award. Alissa Boddie '12, on Nov. 3, 2008, was the last Tiger to sweep both honors.
Lussi scored the first goal of Princeton's 2-0 win over Richmond Friday night, breaking the scoreless tie in the 50th minute before Lazo added the second goal. Lussi and Lazo teamed up again Sunday against Army, with Lazo scoring in the sixth minute and Lussi helping put the game away with goals in the 33rd and 59th minutes.
Lussi became the first Tiger freshman since Diana Matheson '08 in 2004 to score a goal in a season-opening game, and she was also the first Tiger freshman since Matheson to score in each of her first two games.
The goals helped Princeton to its first 2-0 start since 2004, while the Tiger defense opened the season with back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2001.
Lussi and the Tigers will take the field again Thursday night at Seton Hall (1-4-1) before heading to Rutgers (4-1-1) Sunday afternoon.
