After serving as one of Major League Baseball’s National League’s offensive leaders last week, Princeton alum Will Venable ‘05 garnered N.L. Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career, it was announced Monday.

Since the All-Star break the current San Diego Padre outfielder has been on an offensive tear. Venable is in the top-25 in league-wide statistics over the second half of the year, hitting .370 (37-for-100) with 17 runs, 10 RBI, eight doubles, six homers and two triples.

Last week Venable led the N.L. in hits (13) and total bases (23) and was second in runs scored (7) to boast a .406 (13-for-32) batting average and a .719 slugging percentage. The former Tiger also added five runs, two home runs, two doubles and a triple to tally a .406 on-base percentage over a seven-game span en route to his national accolade.

Venable currently owns the longest active hitting streak in the Majors, as he’s riding a 15-game streak (Aug. 2-18). Over that period, he’s amassed a .377 (23-for-61) average with 12 runs, eight RBI, five home runs and five stolen bases.

On the year, Venable owns a .266 (92-for-346) average, with 47 runs, 42 RBI, 20 walks, 17 home runs, 16 doubles, 14 stolen bases and six triples.
