U.S. Field Hockey Release

Julia ’14 and Katie ’13 Reinprecht were named to U.S. Field Hockey National Team’s 18-player roster for the upcoming International Hockey Federation’s World League Semifinals in London from June 22-30. The duo is coming off helping guide Team USA to a first-place finish at the World League Round 2 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“The squad is a nice balance of youth and experience,” said head coach Craig Parnham. “There is a great spirit with the group and we are looking forward to the challenge of the World League Semifinals.”

Julia is one of three collegians named to the roster and the sisters’ account for two of the 12 Olympians headed across the pond.

Team USA has been preparing at nearby Rutgers and will head to London on Saturday, June 15 in hopes of securing a spot in the 2014 World Cup. The U.S. last qualified for the World Cup in 2006, finishing in sixth place.

The U.S. has been placed in Pool A, along with No. 2 Argentina, No. 7 China and No. 17 Italy. Pool B is made up of host-No. 4 England, No. 6 Australia, No. 11 South Africa and No. 15 Spain.

The squad will open the tournament with 2012 Olympic silver medalists Argentina on Saturday, June 22. Team USA defeated Argentina at last year’s Olympics and the Pan-America Games.

The tournament continues with Italy the following day and China on Tuesday, June 25.

The quarterfinals are set for Thursday, June 27, followed by the semifinals two days later and the finals on Sunday, June 30.

“We will aim to finish as high as possible, with the immediate challenge of qualifying for the World Cup,” said Parnham. “Our focus will be a game-by-game approach. The crucial game will be the quarterfinal which will determine whether a team progresses through to the top four places.”
