PRINCETON, N.J. (4/29/13) - Princeton senior Sam Ellis and junior goalie Caroline Franke have been named the Ivy League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for the week ending April 28.
Ellis had a career-best six-point game as she led Princeton to a 14-9 win over No. 6 Penn State on Senior Day. She scored on all four of her shots on goal and added two assists. Ellis gave Princeton a 2-0 lead and set the tone for the game. She helped to expand Princeton's lead to 6-1 with a hat trick. In the final 4:04 of the game she had a hand in each of Princeton's final three goals, assisting on two and scoring the 13th goal.
A 13-save performance by Franke was key to the win over No. 6 Penn State in the regular-season finale. Those 13 saves match her career-high. She frustrated the Nittany Lions offense which averages 13.8 goals per game. Franke made a number of point-blank range shots and stopped three of Penn State's four free-position shots.
The Tigers will face Dartmouth in the semifinals of the Ivy League Tournament on Friday, May 3 at Franklin Field at 4 p.m.
