Ratcliffe is Second Nationally After Record-Breaking Throw at Ellis Invite
PRINCETON, N.J. (4/19/13) – For the third straight meet, freshman Julia Ratcliffe of the Princeton women’s track & field has posted an Ivy League record in the hammer throw at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday, April 19.
Ratcliffe threw a Princeton record of 68.80 (225-09) on her third throw. Her other two counted throws were 64.64 and 61.99. Ratcliffe threw to 63.99 at the Central Florida Invitational and 66.69 at the Sam Howell Invitational. She moves up from fourth in the nation to second.
In the discus, junior Chelsea Cioffi threw a season-long 41.22 (135-03). That mark came on her third throw. She threw to 40+ meters on four of her six attempts.
Senior Greta Feldman won the 1500 as she beat out her former teammate Ashley Higginson ’11 who took second. Feldman clocked a 4:21.43 and Higginson ran a 4:22.68.
Senior Mel Newbery was seventh in the steeplechase at 10:39.52 and sophomore Jackie Nicholas was ninth in the 5000 at 16:44.79.
In the 800, the Tigers went 8-9-11. Sophomore Cecilia Barowski, who set a school record in the 400 last weekend, clocked a 2:08.37 in the 800 to finish eighth. Junior Kacie O’Neil was ninth at 2:08.97 and junior Kristin Smoot was 11th at 2:09.38 in race that featured more than 50 runners.
