PRINCETON, N.J. (3/26/13) - Senior Sam Ellis of the Princeton women's lacrosse team was named to the Israeli National Team it was announced by the Israel Lacrosse Association.

She will be a member of the nation's inaugural team that will compete at the 2013 World Cup in Toronto this July.

"Being selected to play for the first ever Israeli Women's National Lacrosse team is an honor," Ellis said. "I am so excited I have the chance to represent a country that embodies so much of who I am. My grandparents were Holocaust survivors, and although they are not here with me today, I am so thankful I have the opportunity to play for them, and to serve the entire Jewish and Israeli community by bringing awareness of an amazing sport to a country that touches me in a multitude of ways.

Ellis has played in every game for the Tigers this season and has scored in four of those seven games. She has five points on four goals and one assist, and adds eight ground balls and two caused turnovers. During her career she has collected 55 points on 35 goals and 20 assists in 49 games, in addition to 23 ground balls, eight draw controls and four caused turnovers.

"The four years I have spent at Princeton playing for Chris Sailer and my amazing teammates has prepared me for the competition I will face in the World Cup, and I am thrilled to be able to take my experience and skills onto the field for Israel," Ellis said. "Knowing that my lacrosse career is expanding beyond my time at Princeton is a luxury that I am extremely grateful for. I have the opportunity to take my love for the sport into a international sphere, representing a country that will leave a lasting impact on the lacrosse community for years to come."

The roster was selected after a series of tryouts and is composed of both Israeli players, as well as members of the Jewish diaspora, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Federation of International Lacrosse.

The team will train in Israel from July 1-7, and travel to Toronto on July 8, when it will prepare for its first World Cup match against No. 10 Germany on July 11.

Although not scheduled to meet in the preliminary round, Ellis will see Princeton alum Holly McGarvie Reilly '09, a member of the US National Team.
