First-Year Program USC Visits Princeton in Women's Lax Tilt Sunday

PRINCETON, N.J. (3/2/13) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team hosts first-year program University of Southern California on Sunday, March 2 at noon on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.

Eye on the Tigers
Princeton enters the game with a 1-1 record after falling to No. 11 Georgetown 11-6 on the road on Friday afternoon. The Tigers defeated Villanova 10-5 in the season opener at Class of 1952 Stadium.

Four Tigers are tied at the top of the scoring column with three points apiece. Sophomore Erin McMunn and freshman Anya Gersoff have each scored three goals. Senior Charlotte Davis and freshman Alexandra Bruno have two goals and one assist apiece. Senior Sam Ellis and freshman Stephanie Paloscio have each scored twice. Junior Mary-Kate Sivilli, sophomore Erin Slifer, junior Jenna Davis and senior Caroline Rehfuss all have one point apiece. Junior Sarah Lloyd has won a team-high five draw controls with McMunn and junior Colleen Smith with two draws each. Defenders Rehfuss and freshman Liz Bannantine are the team leaders in caused turnovers. Bannantine had all six of her caused turnovers against the Hoyas, and Rehfuss has five. Sophomore Annie Woehling has been in goal for both games. She has made 14 saves on 30 shots for a .467 save percentage and an 8.00 goals against average. She is also the team leader in ground balls with five.

Scouting the Trojans
This is the first varsity season for Southern California. The Trojans are coached by Lindsey Munday, who played (03-06) and coached (07-10) at Northwestern. USC is 3-2 on the season, most recently defeating Long Island University 23-8, its first road game of the season. The Trojans began the season with losses to No. 1 Northwestern and No. 14 UMass. The team has won three straight with wins over Presbyterian and St. Mary’s College.

Offensively the Trojans are led by Caroline de Lyra. She has 27 points on 13 goals and a team-high 14 assists. Caroline Cordrey, Amanda Johansen and Paige Bonomi match de Lyra’s 13 goals, and have 17,16 and 15 points respectively. Johansen dominates the circle for USC winning nearly 50 percent of the team’s draw controls with 33 of 71. Courtney Tarleton is the team leader in ground balls with 15 and caused turnovers with eight. Liz Schaeffer has started in goal in all five games. She has made 46 saves on 99 shots for a 11.53 GAA and a .465 save percentage. Cassandra Collins saw action for the first time at LIU, playing 24 minutes and allowing three goals on three shots.
