Release: 02/25/2013

For the sixth time this season, and in the week leading up to what promises to be a pivotal game in the Princeton men's basketball team's year, senior Ian Hummer has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week.

Hummer's six awards double the previous record for a Princeton player in one season since the award was inaugurated in 1985, and it passes the five in a single season won by Cornell's Ryan Wittman (2009-10) and Penn's Zack Rosen (2011-12) for the Ivy record. He is one award behind the Ivy League record for a career, adding in one each as a sophomore and junior. There are two more awards to be given out this season.

The award recognizes his 20 point-per-game average in two double-digit wins at Columbia and Cornell this past weekend, the team's first road Ivy League weekend sweep since 2011.

In scoring 40 points over the weekend, Hummer pulled closer to becoming the second-leading scorer in program history, standing in fourth place at the moment but just 10 from sole possession of second place. Bill Bradley '65, a teammate of Hummer's father Ed '67, is 962 points ahead of Ian Hummer, accruing his 2,503 points in just three seasons.

Hummer, a strong candidate for Ivy League Player of the Year, is in the top five in the Ivy League in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and assists. Hummer will lead the Tigers into a Friday showdown with Harvard to be televised by ESPNU at 7 p.m. The Crimson enter the game at 7-1 in the Ivy League, a game and a half in front of the Tigers at 9-2 in the league, 14-9 overall.
