ALBANY, N.Y. (2/5/13) - Freshmen Molly Contini and Kimberly Newell have been named the ECAC Hockey Rookie and Goalie of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday, Feb. 5. This is the first league honor for both student-athletes.
Contini had a breakout week as she led the league in freshman scoring. She collected four goals in three games, averaging 1.33 ppg. She recorded her first career hat trick in a 6-1 win over Brown on Saturday. She scored the first goal of the game, in addition to the fourth and fifth goals. Earlier in the week Contini scored the final game in Princeton's 3-0 win over Penn State. She is now second on the team in goals with eight.
Newell went 3-0 during during the week with wins over Penn State, Yale and Brown. She made 63 saves
and allowed just two goals registering a 0.75 goals-against average and a .969 save percentage. Newell
made 11 saves in the first two periods at Penn State. She made 28 saves and allowed one goal against
Yale and stopped 24 saves and allowed one goal the next day versus Brown.
