ALBANY, N.Y. (1/31/13) - Junior Andrew Calof and freshman Mike Ambrosia have been selected as Hogan Hockey/ECAC Hockey Player and Rookie of the Month for January, as chosen by the League’s coaches.
Calof led the league and nation in scoring during the month of January. In five games he scored five goals and seven assists for 12 points, averaging 2.40 points per game during the month. Calof had two four-point games, scored two game-winning goals, had four power-play points, collected his first career hat trick and had a 55.9 face-off win percentage (38 of 68) during the month.
Calof started the month with a hat trick, scoring all three goals in a 3-2 overtime win against Harvard. He had an assist the next night in a 2-1 win over No. 8 Dartmouth. He finished the month with back-to-back four-point games against Rensselaer and Sacred Heart, with one goal and three assists in each match.
With the honor, Calof will move on the Hockey Coaches Association National Player of the Month. That honor is selected by the league's commissioners and will be announced tomorrow.
Ambrosia averaged 1.20 points per game during the month of January. The rookie scored three goals and added three assists in five games. He collected his first career three-point game in the final game of the month, scoring two goals and adding an assist. He recorded assists in wins over Harvard and No. 8 Dartmouth to start the month. Ambrosia also scored in a 4-1 win over Sacred Heart.
