Sanner Wins Fourth Ivy League Rookie of the Week Honor
PRINCETON, N.J. (10/1/12) - Princeton men's soccer freshman Thomas Sanner has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sept. 29. Sanner has received the honor four of the five weeks it has been presented. The Tigers are the first team in Ivy League history to earn four such honors in a five-weeek span since the award was created in 1990.
Sanner continued his offensive prowess into the Ivy League season as he factored into both Princeton goals in a 2-1 overtime win against Dartmouth on Saturday. Sanner scored the game's first goal in the 18th minute when he picked up a through ball, raced past his defender and shot to the opposite side of the goal. Sanner also earned an assist on the game winner as he chested down a long ball and pushed it to teammate Cameron Porter who scored for the Tigers.
Sanner is the team's leading scorer with three goals and five assists for 11 points. He is tied for fourth in the Ivy League in points and is the top scoring rookie in the league.
Sanner is the first four-time Rookie of the Week recipient since Dartmouth’s Lucky Mkosana in 2008 and the first Tiger to earn four Rookie of the Week awards since Jason White in 1999.
