The annual Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational will run Friday through Sunday at what will be a busy Lenz Tennis Center with all 23 courts to be in use for the event.

"It's always exciting to open a new season, and to do so at home with the Farnsworth Invitational makes even more eventful," first-year Princeton head coach Billy Pate said. "The team has had a great first week of practice and though it's a quick turnaround from starting classes today (Thursday) they're energized and ready to go. It will be interesting for both (assistant) Coach (Ryan) Keckley and myself to see us in action and to determine the areas we need to address. We'll certainly learn a great deal more about our personnel as this weekend progresses."

The event begins the fall individual season for the Tigers, with the spring season set to begin in January.

One hundred singles players will be spread between six 16-player brackets. Eight players will be involved in preliminary matches to pare the field down to a bracket-sized 96. Those preliminary matches will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday and are listed below:

Zack McCourt (Princeton) vs. Charlie Caris (Georgetown); Markus Sjoberd (FDU) vs. Kyle Childree (BC); Alexander Maisin (Binghamton) vs. Bert Vancura (Columbia); Michael Katz (Princeton) vs. Nick Sarles (Buffalo).

Competitors from Binghamton, Boston College, Bucknell, Buffalo, Columbia, Cornell, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgetown, Penn, Penn State, St. John's, Wake Forest and Yale will be joining the 13 Tigers on the courts for the event.

There will also be one doubles preliminary match at 8:30 a.m. to set the 48-pair field across three flights. Damien David and Ivan Vereshchaga of Buffalo and Dragos Ignat and Winston Lin of Columbia will meet in that first match. The rest of the matches will begin at 9 a.m. with a few beginning at 9:30 a.m. as the preliminary courts clear.

Friday will feature one round of doubles and two rounds of singles once into the main draw, while Saturday will see two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. There will be a consolation draw as well. The flight finals will be played Sunday.
