Rutgers Takes 2-0 Game in Men's Soccer
PRINCETON, N.J. (9/8/12) - The Rutgers men's soccer team spoiled Princeton's home opener taking a 2-0 game on Saturday, Sept. 8 on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
Mael Corboz scored both goals for the Scarlet Knights who improve to 2-2.
Corboz scored on Rutgers first shot on goal in the 8th minute. Ross Tetro ran down the left flank and crossed the ball into the box where Corboz headed it towards the goal. The ball hit the right post and bounced back to his feet where he knocked in the rebound.
Princeton's first chance came about 14 minutes in when senior Matt Sanner had a header hit the crossbar off a free kick from sophomore Joe Saitta. In the 27th minute Sanner tried again with a kick from about 25 yards out that was pushed aside by the glove of keeper Kevin McMullin.
Corboz collected his second goal in the 52nd minute, scoring on his own free kick that curved around the wall and went into the right upper 90.
One of Princeton's better chances to score in the second half was a shot by freshman Nico Hurtado from the left side in the 84th minute, but it was scooped up by McMullin at the near post.
With two minutes to play Princeton senior keeper Max Gallin made two nice back- to-back stops on shots by Kene Eze.
Princeton outshot Rutgers 15-11 and doubled the Scarlet Knights in corner kicks, 10-5.
Gallin made four stops in goal for the Tigers, while McMullen made six for the Scarlet Knights.
Princeton (1-2) faces its fourth straight BIG EAST opponent on Friday, Sept. 14 when it hosts Georgetown at 7 p.m.
