Reigning EIVA Newcomer of the Year Cody Kessel and 2010 EIVA Head Coach of the Year Sam Shweisky were part of Team Bring It USA/Hawai'i during the 24th annual Asian Pacific Cup recently.
While the team consisted heavily of players, alumni and coaches from the University of Hawaii, both Kessel and Shweisky were able to impact the team. Kessel, a first-team All-East opposite this past year, was part of the talented U.S. squad, while Shweisky served as an assistant coach.
The team had the opportunity to play one match apiece against the Junior National Team from China, the Senior National Team from Thailand, the University National Team from Japan. The U.S. placed second to Japan in the tournament.
Prior to the competition, the team spent a week of training at the University of Hawaii, an experience that proved highly beneficial to both player and coach.
"Having been on several BIP tours before I knew I would not be disappointed, but I did not know what a treat I was in for," Shweisky said. "The week of training at UH was awesome. The level of volleyball was outstanding and getting to work with the UH coaches was an invaluable learning experience."
