Former Princeton hockey player Kevin Westgarth '07 has won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Los Angeles Kings.

The Kings won the trophy on Monday night, defeating the New Jersey Devils four games to two in a best-of-seven series.

A native of Amherstburg, Ont., Westgarth appeared in 25 games for L.A., during the regular season, before suffering a hand injury in a fight with Phoenix's Paul Bissonnette in a game on Feb. 16. The injury would put him on the disabled list the rest of the season. In 25 games, he scored one goal and one assist, had 39 penalty minutes, 31 hits and six blocks.

Known as one of the Kings' enforcers, Westgarth has dropped his gloves nearly 100 times in his six-year professional career.

Westgarth was called up from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League to the Kings first during the 2008-09 season for a nine-game stint before taking a permanent roster spot in 2010-11. He played in the playoffs last season picking up two assists in six games.

At Princeton, Westgarth played in 116 games, scoring 25 goals and adding 35 assists for 60 points. During the 2006-07 season he played alongside his older brother Brett. It was at Princeton where Westgarth met his wife, Megan (Cowher), a notable member of the women's basketball program.

Westgarth joins fellow Tiger George Parros '03 on the Cup. Parros won the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007. Coincidentally, Parros was drafted by and played with the Kings' organization for four years in his professional debut.
